Karl is the President and Chief Executive Officer of Texas Health Aetna. Having interacted extensively with hundreds of digital health companies over the years, Karl has become known as a leading subject matter expert on the topics of successful digital health business models, commercialization, investment and technologies. Karl has helped design, develop and commercialize dozens of innovative products and services across the healthcare and life sciences industries, representing hundreds of millions of dollars in incremental revenues and more than $20B in value-unlocking transactions.
Karl was formerly CEO of Kalico Partners, LLC, a technology-enabled provider and population health management organization (PHMO), and Chief Digital Health Officer of Collain Healthcare, a former subsidiary of LG CNS. Prior to Collain, Karl held the role of Vice President, Corporate Development at Welltok, Inc., an award-winning consumer activation solutions company that improves people’s total wellbeing.
Over the years Karl has had the opportunity to participate in two successful exits as an entrepreneur and work on and lead projects for 9 of the Top 20 pharmaceutical companies, 11 of the Top 20 medical device firms and 4 of the Top 25 PE firms, and has had global management responsibilities of leading extended teams of up to 500 and $300MM P&L.
Karl began his career as a life sciences researcher, conducting pre-clinical cancer and human genetics research at The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, and biotechnology R&D for what are now several subsidiaries of Thermo Fisher Scientific, Inc.
Karl received a B.A. in Biology and an M.B.A. both from The University of Texas at Austin.
DeWayne has been with the Texas Health Aetna joint venture since its launch in 2017 as the Chief Financial Officer and more recently added the role of Chief Operating Officer. His duties include overall financial performance management as well leading efforts to build and manage the network of healthcare providers.
DeWayne is an experienced strategic leader with more than twenty-seven years of healthcare management experience having led and managed finance, network, sales and marketing, and operations teams in a wide array of settings, from start-ups to Fortune 100 companies. Prior to his current role with Texas Health Aetna, he served as the Senior Finance Director for Managed Care and Value Based Reimbursement for Ascension Health as well as Director of Finance, Insurance Services division for Ascension’s Seton Healthcare Family ministry based in Austin, Texas.
While at Ascension, DeWayne was in a finance leadership role as the national hospital system implemented various population health and value-based reimbursement initiatives to support its adoption of the Quadruple Aim of better health outcomes, lower costs, and improved patient and clinician experience.
Prior work experience includes Vice President of Sales for MedSym Solutions Inc., Partner & Chief Operations Officer of MediSun Consulting, Inc., as well as Director of Provider Contracting for Humana’s Austin, Texas operations.
Dr. Del joined Texas Health Aetna (THA) in August of 2017 as Chief Medical Officer and in that capacity is responsible for the clinical and care management strategy of members in the health plan. Prior to joining Texas Health Aetna he was employed as a Senior Medical Director in the Accountable Care Solutions department of Aetna. In that role, he worked directly with clinical and administrative leadership of various provider networks and health systems to execute strategies for effective Population Health Management. Prior to joining Aetna, Dr. Doyle served as Chief Medical Information Officer of Naviscent Health System (formerly Central Georgia Health System) in Macon Georgia. He was responsible for all aspects of patient care delivery that involved the application of computer technology. During his tenure, house-wide Computerized Provider Order Entry (CPOE) and EMR documentation were implemented successfully and migration toward system integration was started. Dr. Doyle assumed the role of CMIO after serving as Medical Director of Emergency Services and implementing throughput and quality improvements while also implementing EMR documentation followed by CPOE in the ED of the CGHS flagship, Medical Center of Central Georgia.
Dr. Doyle is board certified in Emergency Medicine and began to practice clinically in 1998 when he completed a combined Emergency Medicine/Internal Medicine Residency at Henry Ford Health Sciences Center in Detroit Michigan. He served as Chief Resident for Emergency Medicine during his final year of training. His post-graduate clinical experience has included work in a Federally Qualified Health Center in Providence RI, and in emergency departments of various sizes- from small community to large, urban academic centers. He also served as Chairman of Emergency Medicine for Mercer University School of Medicine from October 2008 to December 2011.
A native of Buffalo, New York, Dr. Doyle obtained a BA in Biology from The State University of New York at Buffalo. He earned his medical degree from the Morehouse School of Medicine (Atlanta, Georgia), graduating in May, 1993. In May of 2016 he received an MBA after completion of an in-class curriculum at Mercer University in Atlanta, Georgia.
Erik is a tenured healthcare executive recognized for strategic analysis, operational excellence, and executive management of internal/external business stakeholders. National account carrier experience includes: Blue Cross Blue Shield TX, United Healthcare and Aetna.
Broad expertise in ASO/Value-Based reimbursement compliance metrics, pharmacy, and high-performance network initiatives. Consistent achievement of unilateral corporate revenue mandates in an extremely diverse competitive health-care marketplace. Healthcare thought-leadership with an inherent focus on client strategy and sales.
A native of Chicago, he earned a degree of Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Central State University. He also holds multiple General Lines licenses issued by the Texas Department of Insurance.
Christina is the Market Head of Sales and Services in Dallas, TX. Christina joined Aetna in 2007 and has held various roles across the Enterprise spanning both Middle Market and National Accounts. In her role, she is responsible for building and cultivating relationships with brokers, consultants, and alternate distribution channels locally and across the country. This reach has allowed her valuable insight into the overall challenges facing employers under ACA that include workforce retention and employment, affordability and access.
Prior to joining Aetna, she served as Voluntary National Practice Leader in the Texas market with a consulting firm. While in this role, she was responsible for the growth and development, as well as, helping clients identify gaps in coverage and providing necessary tools to educate employees.
She grew up in Enid, OK and graduated from Oklahoma State University with a Bachelor of Science in Marketing. She also holds various certifications in CLTC and GBA certification under CEBS.
Lisa has more than 27 years of experience in the health care industry and is a proven leader in managing internal and external customer relationships. She works as a Director of Account Management at Aetna.
As a Director of Account Management, Lisa is charged with leading her team to retain existing business by planning, negotiating, implementing strategic plans for current Middle Market Account Clients. Lisa’s business savvy and energy have afforded her the opportunity to partner with internal and external customers. Lisa is responsible for leading partnership with the brokers, consultants, and clients to identify business strategies.
Prior to Lisa’s current role, she was a Sr. Account Executive at Aetna. Prior to joining Aetna in 2011, Lisa worked at BlueCross BlueShield of Texas beginning in 1996. Lisa has worked as a provider network representative, a manager of the facility provider network area and a lead National Principal Account Executive. Prior to joining BCBSTX, she was employed by CIGNA HealthCare in 1992, where she worked in various capacities in the provider services department.
Lisa holds a General Lines insurance license issued by the Texas Department of Insurance. She earned a Master of Business Administration degree from Texas Woman’s University and a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Texas at Dallas.
Christopher is the Sales Manager for Middle Market Commercial business in Texas. In his role, Christopher leads sales team members in the Dallas, Austin, San Antonio and Houston field offices and is responsible for driving new business medical membership in the state and building & strengthening relationships with broker & consultant partners. Christopher and his team will leverage several internal & external relationships, including ACO/Joint Ventures, TPA solutions and ancillary partnerships to provide plan sponsors with a complete member experience and a sound financial foundation.
Christopher began his career in the industry at Aetna in the Hartford, CT home office as a new business underwriter for South Texas & Oklahoma (2011-2013). Following his time in underwriting, Christopher had a stint at Gallagher Benefit Services (Houston, 2013) as an Account Coordinator and then went on to jumpstart a small group presence as the Small Group New Business Account Executive with Ameritas (Houston, 2014), selling dental, vision & hearing products. In 2015, Christopher returned to Aetna as the Large Group New Business Account Executive in Austin and remained in that role through 2019. In late 2019, Christopher assumed the role of Sales Manager for South Texas overseeing Austin, San Antonio & Houston field offices, and in late 2020 this role was expanded to encompass the state of Texas.
Christopher grew up in Waterbury, CT and graduated from the University of Connecticut with a Bachelor’s Degree in Economics. He now resides in Houston, TX with his wife Heather, three children William, Grant & Lelia and two dogs, Nahla & Jade.
Marlen Mancias is the Territory Director for Small Group Sales. She manages the South Central Region team, which includes Texas and Oklahoma. She was instrumental in launching the Small Group Level Funded product-Aetna Funding Advantage. To date, her team has successfully continued to appear on the leaderboard for Small Group Sales and Retention.
Marlen began her career at Aetna in May of 2014, as a Broker Relationship Manager for the San Antonio and Austin, TX markets. She successfully developed and executed small group initiatives, staying abreast of all the ACA laws, which allowed her to continually drive results in the small group market segment.
Prior to working at Aetna, she worked at an employee benefits firm in San Antonio, Texas for over thirteen years in multiple roles. Her passion for Small Group is what brought her to Aetna and the ever-changing environment that the Affordable Care Act brought to the industry. She is passionate about finding solutions for small employers.
Marlen is an alumnus of The University of Texas at San Antonio. She holds a Small Group Specialist designation and a Self-Funded Certification from the National Association of Health Underwriters.
